Green Dragon (2002) - 3 Stars

In 1975 during the Vietnam War, refugees come to Camp Pendleton marine base seeking a new home in the Unites States. Sgt. Jim Lance (Patrick Swayze) is in charge of these Vietnamese residents. Tai (Don Duong), is a Vietnamese man in the camp looking after his nephew Minh (Trung Nguyen) and niece Anh (Jennifer Tran), who are waiting for their mother to arrive at the camp. Sgt. Lance tries his best to give the refuges some dignity in the settlement but is frustrated by the language barrier. Tai helps Lance to speak to the people through him. The two spend much time together and form a bond. Meanwhile Addie (Forest Whitaker), is a cook at the camp and the young boy Minh finds him quite fascinating. He spends a lot of time with Addie and even though they have a language barrier, the two communicate through Addie's paintings. They construct a large mural on the wall to try and depict their cultures coming together. When Addie dies suddenly, the mural is covered up and with so are the ideas of a closer relationship with each others worlds.
