Conspiracy Theory (1997) R - 4 Stars

I enjoyed this movie a lot starring Julia Roberts and Mel Gibson. Mind games are my favorite movies and this one surely fits the bill. He sounds like he is crazy person with his stories and she is a Justice Department employee who believes him when he says he was programmed to be an assassin.

Jerry Fletcher (Mel Gibson) is drives a cab in New York City. To most he sounds like a crack pot with his conspiracy theories about aliens, earthquakes and political assassinations. He's so absorbed with his conspiracies, he publishes a news letter of information he deems secretive and he has a following of 5 subscribers.

When Jerry witnesses Alice Sutton (Julia Roberts) being mugged, he intervenes to protect her. Alice works for the Justice Department as an attorney. He's secretly got a thing going for her and adores her from afar. Alice sees Jerry as harmless, though a little quirky. When one of his theories turns out to be correct, he is kidnapped by the CIA and worked over. Dr. Jonas (Patrick Stewart) seems to know more about Jerry than he lets on and when Jerry escapes from the his grips, he turns to Alice as she is the only one he feels he can trust. Together they try to uncover the truth.

Alice becomes entangled in his warped world, trying to determine whether he's basically a nut case, a deranged killer, or the victim of a government experiment.
