P.S. I Love You (2007) PG13 - 4 Stars

Now this is a a pretty good little movie about figuring out what's important so you can move on in your life. It focuses on Irish tradition and eventually the backdrop is Ireland where it's just romantic and beautiful. Okay I guess it can be labeled a chick flick.

Holly Kennedy (Hilary Swank) and Gerry (Gerard Butler) are a young couple who've been married for 10 years but still struggle to figure out when their lives begin. Gerry is an Irish songwriter with a great sense of humor that stands by Holly who's still trying to find her niche in life. They seem to be perfect for each other till Gerry suddenly dies from a brain tumor. Holly has been so used to Gerry making things right for her, that she has a hard time coping with his death.

The funeral takes place at her mom's Irish pub where everyone toasts the departed with shots of Irish Whiskey stacked up on his cremation urn. Daniel (Harry Connick, Jr.) works at the pub and befriends Holly at a time where she just needs someone to talk to. But Holly falls into a rut and shuts the world off for three weeks.

Her mother Patricia (Kathy Bates)and even her best friends Denise (Lisa Kudrow) and Sharron (Gina Gershon) have to show up at her door step to force her out of her funk. The girls force Holly out on the town for the evening and take her to a men's gay club where the guys are very sympathetic and compassionate to Holly's needs. But Holly still can't think about anything feeling except the feeling of abandonment.

Since no one knows Holly better than Gerry did, he pre-arranged a series of plans to help Holly be close to him while also showing her how to cope in life without him and gradually pull herself back to the world of living. 10 Letters arrive over the rest of the year, with specific instructions guiding Holly's choices. As she follows the explicit instructions, she yearns to have those special feelings back again. A visit to Ireland is what Gerry orders up for Holly, Sharron and Denise where she meets William (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) who allows her to take a chance on love again.
