Tsunami: The Aftermath (2006) NR - 3 Stars

An HBO made for television mini series, Tsunami the Aftermath is the heartbreaking story of those who survived December 26, 2004. The Tsunami thrashed the coast of Thailand and 12 other countries. It is estimated that over 227,000 people died and when the movie came out, 50,000 bodies were still unaccounted for. In 2006, the Tsunami was considered one of history's most cataclysmic disasters.

The movie focuses on a fictional group of characters who've lost loved ones and those who are still looking for closure. A meteorologist had reported earlier on the great inevitability of a tsunami hitting that area and his findings went unnoticed. Lose of life could have been avoided with just a 30 minute warning siren. Today, Tsunami warning devices are currently being installed.

Ian Carter (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and his wife Susie (Sophie Okonedo) lost their child that faithful day and can not move on in their lives without finding closure of their daughters body. Than (Samrit Machielsen), has lost his entire family and is trying to keep developers from seizing the land. A British woman on vacation in Thailand has lost her husband and almost one of her two sons. People from different cultures and social backgrounds come together in a time of need.
