Fred Claus (2007) PG - 3½ Stars

Finally!!! A decent holiday movie that has something for just about everyone. There's the scrooge, the good guy, the bad guy, naughty, nice, family, love, loyalty and a good helping of holiday cheer. I have to say that it was quite refreshing to watch a holiday film that was funny and still approved for children. I really enjoyed the movie and found it a good holiday pick for today, Christmas day's, movie.

Life was good for Fred until his little brother Nicholas was born. "Why can't you be more like your brother" is usually the words coming out of his mother's (Kathy Bates), mouth as Nicholas was a very loving giving child and Fred the rebellious one.

As adults, Nicholas (Paul Giamatti) and Fred (Vince Vaughn) are total opposites. Nicholas is a perfect saint and spends his entire life with his wife Annette (Miranda Richardson) living at the North Pole with one goal in mind. To ensure the children of the world all get at least one toy on Christmas. Fred, on the other hand, is a repro-man with a fast talking tongue that steals most of what he repossesses. Out of money, and in jail, Fred turns to his brother for help. Nicholas agrees to allow his brother to come to the North Pole. Nicholas agrees under the condition that Fred will assist him in his toy shop, to make toys needed for the holiday while paying off his debt. Problem is, Fred is hardly cut out for this line of work and doesn't take it very seriously. Between his acting out in the toy shop and Clyde's (Kevin Spacey) the inspector, trying to shut the toy shop down, Fred could help cause Christmas and Santa Claus to come to an end.
