Ana (America Ferrera), is and 18 year old plumply shaped girl growing up in East Los Angeles. Her mother Carmen (Lupe Ontiveros), doesn't miss an opportunity to remind her daughter of that fact. Ana has dreams of college and making it rich but comes to the aid of her sister Estela (Ingrid Oliu), to help out in the family clothing making "sweat shop" business. Soon she discovers for herself the low wages and bad working conditions these women go through. While examining her own self esteem issues, she encourages the women to stand up for themselves to make improvements in their lives. It's okay to not be perfect!!
