Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997) R - 3 Stars

Here's a case of me renting a movie I had already seen before because I didn't remember the title. At least it's worthy of a re-viewing. Clint Eastwood directs this tale of a wealthy man in Savannah Georgia accused of murder.

John Kelso (John Cusack)is a reporter from New York who arrives in Savannah to write an article about Jim Williams (Kevin Spacey), a wealthy antique dealer who restores old mansions. John writes for Town and Country and will be writing a story about the annual Christmas party being held at Mercer House where Jim lives. It's not till after the party is over, that John gets something to write about. It seems that Billy Hanson (Jude Law), Jim's secret gay lover, is dead and Jim is saying it was self defense. John decides there's a lot more to write about and stays to cover the story.

John meets a bunch of strange characters like quirky Sonny Seiler (Jack Thompson) and his famous dog, UGN, the mascot of the Georgia Bulldogs. Minerva (Irma P. Hall) is the local voodoo spiritualist, Lady Chablis, a black transvestite drag queen, and a singer Mandy Nichols (Alison Eastwood) who he develops and eye for. John definitely has his hands full and gets more than he bargained for on this assignment.
