The story of Henri Young (Kevin Bacon), sentenced to Alcatraz for stealing $5, who tried to escape with three other prisoners. When one of the men was caught, he quickly ratted out the others trying to save his own neck. Henri was thrown into solitary confinement for 19 days. The dungeon type cell he was held in had no lights, water or even a toilet. Eventually Henri's confinement seemed permanent when it turned into 1,000 days. When Henri is allowed to leave the confinement, his rage has grown so he murders the prisoner that ratted on him. Now he is put on trial for murder and its up to James Stamphill (Christian Slater) to save his neck. His main defense was to show that when you cage anyone up in such despicable conditions, anyone could be driven to murder.
